Simala Shrine | Cebu

The Simala Shrine is a well-known religious site in the Philippines. Every day, thousands of devotees from all over the country flock to the shrine in Lindogon, Simala, Cebu.

The Philippines is Asia’s only Christian country. The Roman Catholic faith is practiced by 86 percent of the population, while the remaining population is religiously diverse. Simala has a special place in the hearts of devotees, particularly those who believe in miracles. This shrine is thought to be the resting place of the miraculous Virgin Mary’s image.

HOW TO GET TO SIMALA SHRINE

If you are traveling alone or in a group and do not have a car, there are two options to consider. You can take the bus or a V-hire (Van).

BY BUS

From Cebu City, take the South Bus Terminal, which is right next to Elizabeth Mall, also known as “E-mall.” Simply look for a bus with the “Sibonga/Simala” template on it and you’ll be fine. It can get quite crowded, so the best time to go is at 5 a.m. The bus fare is โ‚ฑ80 or $1.52 USD. It takes about 2 hours to travel from Cebu City to Simala.

BY V-HIRE (VAN)

The V-Hire terminal is located on Junquera St., right next to the main campus of the University of San Carlos. All routes to Cebu, both south and north, are also operated here. Simply inquire as to which van is heading to Simala. The V – hire fare is โ‚ฑ100 or $1.89. The van ride can be a little uncomfortable due to the small space and the presence of 16 other people.

When you arrive at the Simala Shrine terminal, you must take a Habal-Habal or motorcycle taxi to the Shrine, which is 5 kilometers away. The fare for a habal-habal is โ‚ฑ20 or $0.38.

Because the Philippines is a tropical country, most days can be quite hot and humid. As a result, you should bring umbrellas, hats, sunglasses, and other protective shields with you. Also, bring plenty of water!

Simala Shrine is a place of worship, so you are not permitted to wear revealing clothing. They will not let you in if you are dressed in such a fashion. Both men and women are advised to wear jeans and shoes. It is best to follow the regulations that are being implemented to avoid inconvenience. The shrine also holds masses in some days.

WHAT TO SEE AT SIMALA SHRINE

When you enter the shrine, you’ll notice the beautiful structures that make you feel like you’re in a castle. The space is quite large. You can also see a large man-made “lake” that will undoubtedly catch your attention. The scenery in the surrounding area is breathtaking!

There are numerous sculptures, statues, and pictures of Mother Mary throughout the area. You can see the “Hall of Answered Prayers” from devotees who experienced and witnessed The Virgin Mary’s holiness. There are many stories and letters in a cabinet, as well as items belonging to the writers of these letters. It will undoubtedly cause goosebumps when you read their experiences.

For those who wish to pray, there is a designated “Praying Area.” Additionally, you can write your petitions and drop them in their “Prayers Drop Box.” There is also a path leading to the Birhen sa Simala Statue. It can be quite lengthy, especially since many devotees want to see and pray in front of her.

The Simala Shrine is truly a miraculous place for me. I’ve been there three times now, and each time I leave all my doubts and problems by writing my petitions, I receive a lot of blessings days or weeks later (it is up to you if you believe it or not). It is such a great place for all devotees. And I truly believe that if you pray to the Miraculous Virgin Mary with a sincere heart, anything is possible.
