Bohol is a Philippine province located in the country’s Central Visayas region. Bohol is well-known for its Chocolate Hills, Tarsiers (the world’s smallest primate), heritage sites, and old stone churches.
Bohol has a plethora of historical and cultural relics. It is for this reason that many tourists travel to see its natural beauty, which has been well preserved. In this blog, I’ll be writing about my trip to Bohol and the amazing places we visited!
Fast ferries are the best way to get to Bohol. It will take 2 hours to get there if you leave from a neighboring island, such as Cebu. You can get a ticket on the day of your trip or buy it ahead of time because it can get pretty crowded and you won’t get a seat and will have to stand for 2 hours.ย There are numerous fast ferry companies that provide high-speed passenger service, but we decided to ride Ocean Jet. The fare from Cebu to Tagbilaran is โฑ800.00 (Tourist class), and โฑ1000.00 (Business class).
We arrived in Bohol after a two-hour journey. We arrived at precisely 7:00 a.m. Someone had already greeted us; and he wasย our tour guide for the day. A week before our trip, we booked a tour company that offers affordable Bohol packages. The best part about getting a tour package is that you no longer have to pay an entrance fee to visit these places.
Listed below are the tourist attractions we visited.
Bohol Tarsier Sanctuary – it is a sanctuary where visitors can see a lot of tarsiers in their natural habitat. They are one of the smallest primates in the world. Tarsiers are officially considered endangered species. They are also nocturnal animals.
Important Reminder:
ย Doย notย useย your camera’sย flashย whenย takingย aย pictureย andย doย notย touchย themย sinceย itย stressesย them out.
They are also very sensitive.
Opening Hours : 9am-4pm.
Habitat Butterflies Conservation Centerย – it is a quaint butterfly sanctuary in a tropical setting with guided tours & a restaurant.
Opening Hours : 8am-4:30pm
Chocolate Hills – are a geological formation in the Philippines’ Bohol province. They are covered in green grass that turns brown during the dry season, giving rise to the name.
According to legend, the hills were formed when two giants fought for days, throwing stones and sand at each other. When they had had enough, they made friends and left the island, leaving behind the mess they had created.
Man-Made Forest – it is a man-made mahogany forest, established in the mid-20th century, stretches in a two-kilometer stretch of densely planted Mahogany trees, which were a reforestation project initiated by local students in Bohol! We paused for a moment to relax and enjoy the cool breeze.
Loboc River Cruise – ย the well-known “Floating Restaurant” in Bohol It is very popular with tourists. When we went there for lunch, there were a lot of people waiting for their turn. The waiting area is teeming with hungry tourists (including us!), and we patiently await our turn. Fortunately for us, it was included in our tour package, so we didn’t have to pay anything else.
It is a buffet lunch with a variety of foods to choose from. The majority of the foods are Filipino foods. But the best part about this entire experience is that you get to enjoy the breathtaking views while eating. There are also performances by locals who perform Filipino folk dances.
Blood Compact / Sandugo Shrine – This well-known monument, known as Sandugo, was a blood compact performed on the Philippine island of Bohol on March 16, 1565, between the Spanish explorer Miguel Lรณpez de Legazpi and Datu Sikatuna, the chieftain of Bohol, to seal their friendship as part of tribal tradition. This is regarded as the first friendship treaty between Spaniards and Filipinos. “Sandugo” is a Visayan word that translates to “one blood.”
This is simply Bohol’s countryside. There are still many tourist attractions to visit. Your tour guide can tell you a lot of stories and histories about this beautiful place. You can definitely see the locals’ efforts to preserve Bohol’s natural beauty through these places.
If you plan to visit Bohol, make it an unforgettable travel experience and enjoy the stories that come with it!
Seeing the smallest monkey in the world and those lovely chocolate hills was the highlight of my Phiilppine vacation. I love Bohol and will be coming back again early next year.
